Sweet summertime is here, and it’s the perfect season to embrace easy living with pool days, picnics, and trips to the farmer’s market.
One of the best perks of this time of year? Berry season!
When you buy blueberries in season, you're not only getting them at their freshest and most flavorful, but also at their most nutritious.
Plus, with their abundance, you can stock up on these juicy gems at the best prices of the year.
Why You’ll Love This Blueberry Chia Jam
This Blueberry Chia Jam is the ultimate summer delight, and the best part? It’s made with just three ingredients!
No added sugar, packed with antioxidants, and a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, this jam is a must-have in your kitchen.
Typical jams and jellies are often loaded with added sugars, artificial colors, and preservatives. But with this recipe, you can keep things clean and simple.
By using the freshest blueberries, there’s no need for extra sugar or synthetic flavors.
Instead of traditional gelatin, we’re using chia seeds—these tiny nutritional powerhouses are flavorless, allowing the natural taste of the blueberries to shine through.
When mixed with liquid, chia seeds expand, creating a thick, jelly-like consistency that’s rich in soluble fiber, which helps to balance blood sugar levels and keep you feeling full longer.
Delicious and Versatile
Spread this Blueberry Chia Jam on all your favorite foods—toast, waffles, oatmeal, smoothie bowls, sandwiches, and even as a topping for burgers or ice cream.
It’s also a fantastic addition to your s’mores, adding a fresh, fruity twist.
Blueberry Chia Jam
(Makes approximately 1 cup of jam)
Ingredients:
1 pint fresh blueberries*
1/2 tablespoon fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey (optional)
Directions:
Wash the blueberries and add them to a small saucepan. Simmer over medium-low heat for 5-10 minutes, smashing the blueberries with the back of a spoon or spatula as they soften. Tip: Be careful with your clothing, as blueberries can squirt and stain!
Continue simmering and smashing until you reach your desired consistency. For a smoother texture, simmer for around 10 minutes. Then, remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice and chia seeds.
Taste the mixture. If your blueberries weren’t in season and need a bit more sweetness, add sweetener to reach your perfect flavor.
Allow the mixture to cool for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a container and chill completely in the refrigerator. For the best taste and texture, use within 7-10 days.
Notes:
Frozen blueberries can be substituted for fresh; just thaw them in the refrigerator before simmering.
Feel free to experiment by swapping blueberries with strawberries or blackberries for a different flavor twist!
